DR. PHILIPPE ARCHAMBAULT, ECOLOGIST & PROFESSOR *Special Guest
Dr. Philippe Archambault is the Director of the network ‘Notre Golfe’ , leader of a project ‘Observing Arctic Substrates’ in the major program Sentinel North (https://www.ulaval.ca/en/sentinel-north.html) , leader of the reseach theme ‘INTEGRITY OF COASTAL MARINE ENVIRONMENTS AND REGIONAL SOCIOECONOMIC ISSUES’ in the network Québec Océan (http://www.quebec-ocean.ulaval.ca/index.php) and member of Takuvik (http://www.takuvik.ulaval.ca/index.php ) the join laboratory between Université Laval (Quebec) and CNRS (France). Inside all these networks and projects his research focuses on the influence of anthropogenic and natural disturbances on benthic biodiversity (animals living in or near the seafloor) in Arctic and subarctic regions. He is trying to understand the processes altering biodiversity, and ultimately the role of the latter in the ecosystem. In other words, what is the role of biodiversity in the environment? Why is biodiversity important? Among the processes studied are productivity and human disturbances and natural disturbances (hypoxia, climate change). He is also co-leader a theme section on multistressor in the Strategic CHONe network (Canadian Healthy Ocean Network) and Chairman of the 4th World Conference of Marine Biodiversity (http://wcmb2018.org/ , > 1500 researchers) to be held in Montreal in May 2018. Dr. Archambault will be our co-host for the French Live Dive and has a lot of knowledge to share on Arctic marine species who live in or near the seafloor and ecology.

Dr. Philippe Archambault est directeur du réseau Notre Golfe , leader du projet ‘Observation des substrats Arctique’ dans le programme majeur Sentinelle Nord (https://www.ulaval.ca/sentinelle-nord.html ), leader de l’axe de recherche ‘INTÉGRITÉ DES MILIEUX MARINS CÔTIERS ET ENJEUX SOCIOÉCONOMIQUES RÉGIONAUX’ dans le réseau Québec Océan (http://www.quebec-ocean.ulaval.ca/index.php) et membre de Takuvik (http://www.takuvik.ulaval.ca/index.php ) le laboratoire mixte International entre l’ Université Laval (Quebec) et le CNRS (France). À l’intérieur de tous ces réseaux et projets, ses travaux de recherche portent sur l’influence des perturbations anthropiques et naturelles sur la biodiversité benthique. Il tente de comprendre les processus modifiant la biodiversité et finalement le rôle de celle-ci dans l’écosystème. En d’autres mots à quoi sert la biodiversité dans l’environnement ? Pourquoi la diversité est-elle importante ? Parmi les processus étudiés, il y a la productivité et les perturbations anthropiques (pollution, multistresseurs, changement climatique, etc.). Il est également co-leader du Thème sur les multistresseur dans le réseau Stratégique CHONe (Canadian Healthy Ocean Network) et président du "4ème World Conference of Marine Biodiversity" (http://wcmb2018.org/ , > 1500 chercheurs) qui se déroulera à Montréal en mai 2018. Dr. Archambault sera hôte pour la plongée en direct en français et partagera ses connaissances reliées aux espèces marines arctiques et l'écologie.
